LynchburgHillcats split with Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. _ Third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit two home runs and had six RBIs as the Lynchburg Hillcats defeated Myrtle Beach 10-3 in the second game Monday night to clinch the first-half championship of the Northern Division in the high Class A Carolina League and gain a split of a doubleheader. Alvarez hit a two-run shot and a three-run blast to raise his season home run total to 14. Hillcats second baseman Jose De Los Santos had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Chi-Hung Cheng (5-2) was the starter and winner, allowing two runs and four hits in five innings with no walks and one strikeout. In the first game, right fielder Miles Durham had two of Lynchburg's three hits as the Hillcats lost 1-0. Justin Wilson (3-4) was the starter and loser, giving up one run and five hits in five innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Lynchburg is 42-22.
