PITTSBURGH _ Pirates reliever Tyler Yates will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing Tommy John reconstructive surgery on his right elbow. James Andrews performed the surgery Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala, to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. Yates had been on the disabled list since May 16 with what had been termed elbow inflammation. Yates, 31, will begin his rehabilitation at the Pirates' spring training facility in Bradenton, Fla., and is expected to start a throwing program in five months. He was 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA in 15 games this season. |
